The Sangeet is the musical celebration of the wedding, typically held in the evening one or two days before the main ceremony. Families and friends perform songs and dances — both prepared routines and spontaneous performances — often competing playfully between the bride's and groom's sides. For Gujarati Hindu families, the Sangeet becomes a Garba or Raas Garba night, featuring traditional circular folk dance performed to live or recorded garba music.
The Sangeet is one of the highest-energy events in the wedding programme and often the one guests look forward to most. It is where the choreographed family dances happen, where the DJ earns their fee, and where the professional dance floor fills up properly. Guest counts typically range from 150 to 400.
Vendors essential to a good Sangeet: a strong DJ or live band, lighting and production (this is the most production-heavy pre-wedding event), decorators, a choreographer if the family wants rehearsed performances, photographer and videographer, and caterers for dinner and late-night snacks.
